Gardening enthusiasts braved the bitter cold weather and turned out in style for our final event of the year - the Christmas social. There was nothing but warmth and cheer, though, inside the Victoria Hall - with mince pies, mulled wine and much more to help everyone get into the festive spirit.
With a short fun gardening quiz, members got together in teams to test their knowledge (and / or luck!) Also there was plenty of time to just chat with old friends and make new ones. Some Christmas presents were bought, with plenty of gardening gloves and potted bulbs on sale. In addition Damian Theaker did a demonstration of separating out small leek shoots from a leek seed head. Several of us left with some tiny leek plants and the promise of getting a head start on our short growing season. For more about growing leeks, read this article written by Damian.
The next event is an evening talk on Weds 11th January. We are delighted to host Joanna Gough talking about the Display Glass Houses at Dumfries House. Please visit our events page for more details.
